Students seeking admissions in professional courses suffer | Govt fails to introduce Physical Education at UG level | | Shiv Dev Thakur

JAMMU, Jan 11: In yet another failure of the Higher Education department, Physical Education could not be introduced at the Under Graduate level in various colleges even though the same subject is available at 10+2 and Post Graduate level. Reliable sources rued with Early Times that the Higher Education department had decided to introduce Physical education at college level as the subject was already included at the Higher Secondary level as well as PG level after a number of the protests by the students desirous to take admission it. Sources added that the move would have helped the students who intended toi pursue careers in Physical Education as they could have continued to study the subject at the under graduate level before seeking admission at the PG level in B PEd and M PEd course. Partap Singh Jamwal, a Student leader said that the introduction of Physical Education at UG level will help more youth in becoming trained Physical Education teachers.. He added that even some of the colleges have infrastructures which is not being put to use due to failure of the government. Principal GCW Gandhi Nagar told Early Times that a feedback was sought from the colleges in this regard. She added, "I have forwarded the Feedback and the present status of the policy is not known to me as it is the decision of State Government only." Dhian Singh Bhau, Director Physical Education University of Jammu when contacted by Early Times said that a proposal was made by State Government to introduce Physical Education at undergraduate level during a meeting chaired by the then Commissioner Secretary. "I have also discussed the matter personally with the Secretary in this regard, so that the students can be benefitted", he added. |
