Traffic police launches 26th Road Safety Awareness Week

Jammu, Jan 11: The 26th Road Safety Awareness Week, being organised by Traffic Police in different districts of Jammu province including National Highway Ramban from 11th to 17th January, 2015 commence here today.
Aimed at to sensitize the commuters about do's and don's of traffic on road. The event would be organized at district Headquarts Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban, Banihal, Doda, Samba, Kathua Kishtwar and Jammu. The Road Safety Awareness Week having slogan 'Safety is not just of slogan, its way of life' was also kick started in Jammu city where besides traffic cops, students of schools, colleges, employees of SRTC, MVD, Tourism ,union of matadoors, NCC and NSS cadets took participation. The flag was off by IGP Traffic Muneer Khan which stated from Gandhi Nagar locality and culminated near Green Field School at Green Belt Park . SSP Traffic Jammu Mohan Lal when contacted said that aim of the traffic awareness is to make the people aware of the various traffic norms to curtail the accidents and other traffic related violations, adding, IGP Traffic also inaugurating the camp at Jammu railway station on Monday . Elaborating on activities of the department in different districts, it was informed that a series of awareness programmes was organised besides distributing necessary literature on the subject among the targeted segment. As part of these endeavours, awareness seminar for public, drivers, transporters and road users were organised at Udhampur, Reasi, Banihal, Doda and Kishtwar. Besides, literature was given to the participants to educate them about various safety measures need to taken to avoid road mishap.
Earley, student rallies in other districts were also taken out to raise massive awareness among the people on the subject. Besides, the authority also pasted pamphlets at prominent places reflecting the road safety rules and responsibilities.
Meanwhile, To sensitize the general public, transporters, drivers and conductors about the importance of following road safety rules, the 26th Road Safety Week activities started in the district here today.
Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with District Police organized an awareness programme at General Bus Stand Poonch, attended among others by the Senior Superintendent of Police, J S Johar, ARTO, Varinder Manyal, DySP HQ, Deepak Digra, officers of Traffic Police besides transporters, commuters, drivers and conductors. Speaking on the occasion SSP highlighted the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations to drivers and conductors and exhorted them to follow road safety rules in letter and spirit to ensure safety of human life.
ARTO asked the transporters and drivers to ensure conformity to the traffic rules saying that any violations will be dealt with severly and repeated violations of traffic rules shall invite cancellation of licence and route permit.
A team of doctors comprising of Dr Farooq Ahmed and Dr Tariq Mehmood also conducted medical check up of drivers and conductors.
As part of the 26th Road Safety Week activities, awareness camps will be held in different parts of the district from January 11 to 17.
