Attempt to revive militancy in Doda-Kishtwar

Kishtwar, Aug 3: As a part of a major concern for the security forces, reports suggest that efforts are afoot to revive militancy in Chatroo area of Kishtwar District that witnessed large scale violence, attacks on security forces, politicians and government functionaries in the past.
Fresh movement of militants in hilly areas of Chatroo, particularly in Fambar range situated at the height of over 13000 feet above sea level having vast connectivity with neighboring Anantnag District of South Kashmir has been reported lately.
As per the details available with ET, the active Kishtwar police led by Station House Officer Chatroo Ananyat Hussain and troops of 11 RR under the supervision of Dy. SP Operation Irshad Ahanger after receiving an information about the presence of hideout in Shree and Batwari area found one hideout in the Shree forest located in close vicinity of Chatroo town. During the search of the said hideout, the party recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition which include 943 live Round of 7.62 mm and 7.1 mm, 2 UBGL throwers, 01 RPG shell, 11 other shells, 18 AGS grenades, 05 IED charge sticks, 02 IED switch control devices, 02 Empty Magazines of Ak-47, 05 IED Batteries, 10 IED switches and 01 Empty ammunition box from the hideout which was destroyed on spot. On this case FIR No.30/2016 u/s 7/25 A.Act, 120-B/121-A RPC, 4/5 Exp. substance Act stands registered in Police Station Chatroo.
Meanwhile the sources informed the ET that the sleeper cells of HM and LeT along with the support of local Over Ground Workers are making an attempt to revive militancy in Kishtwar and Doda District. The sources said that establishment of hideout close to populated area in Chatroo could be the major game plan of the militants to carry out terror attacks ahead of Independence which merely few days away. The sources said that the recovery of such huge cache of arms and ammunition from Chatroo by the team headed by Dy. SP Operation is major success for the Kishtwar police as the ammunition recovered from the Chatroo hideout had a potential to cause mass scale death and destruction n case the same was used by the militants who dumped it.
The official sources informed that only two militants of HM namely Jahangir Saroori active for last 25 years and Raiz Ahmed active since last 8 years were active in Kishtwar belt while adjoining Doda District has been declared as militancy free area. The sources said that even though both the Districts have not witnessed any militancy related incidents in last few years, but the OGW network in both Districts is very much active and can play an important role in revival of militancy for which the security forces have to remain on high alert.
