137th Birth anniversary of Sir Chhotu Ram celebrated with fervour

SAMBA, Mar 25: Sir Chottu Ram Jat Charitable Trust today organized a one day program to celebrate the 137th birth anniversary of Sir Chottu Ram at Vijaypur Kamala, Thandi Khui near Hotel 17-Miles on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway. The function was organized under the leadership of Trust's general secretary Ch Kamal Singh and was presided over by Ram Narayan, a social activist from Rajasthan while the proceedings were conducted by PV Chikara.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr MS Malik, President Jat Maha Sabha, Chandigarh said that Deen Bandu Sir Chottu Ram struggled for every poor and weak by rising above caste, creed and religion. What he did for farmers whole world knows. Bhakra Nangal project the life line of agriculture farming of Punjab is due to him. He never talked about any specific caste rather whole of the humanity of India and had special affinity and love for the poor. He was instrumental in enacting Pro-farmers act in respect of return of mortgaged land to tillers, benami land transfer act, establishment of agricultural fund, village industries and government services for farmers. The demands projected by most of the speakers on the occasion included implementation of the Rs 2000 crore package received from the central government for disbursement among the refugees of 1947, 1965, 1971 may be simplified as most of the families are likely to be excluded if the present system of documentation is kept intact.
