Under pressure from high command, BJP MLC from Rajouri withdrew his statement
Lathi-charge in Nowshera
3/25/2018 11:31:08 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 25: BJP has, it appears, turned insensitive towards those who voted for it in 2014 en-block and gave it a political status. That the BJP doesn't care for the aspirations, demands and suffering of the people of Jammu became evident on Saturday when it, according to sources close to BJP head quarters at Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, "directed its MLC from Rajouri Vibodh Gupta to withdraw his statement that had expressed solidarity with the people of Nowshera who were beaten and lathi-charged by the police".
"Vibodh Gupta had done a right thing by condemning the police atrocities on the people of Nowshera, as also by demanding a probe into the incident. The moment the high command came to know that he had issued a statement condemning the attack, the party high command became very active to placate the PDP. It ordered the MLC to immediately withdraw the statement which the high command said had the potential of embarrassing the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home Portfolio. The high command put tremendous pressure on him and he withdrew his statement within minute," the source said.
It needs to be underlined that Vibodh Gupta had on Saturday evening issued a detailed statement on the Nowshera violence episode. His statement read: "BJP senior leader and MLC Vibodh Gupta today (strongly) strongly condemned the lathi-charge on the peaceful protest at Nowshera. He termed this very unfortunate and called for a immediate probe into the matter. He said that the peace-loving people of Nowshera have always a suffered a lot and he was pained to see the innocent people being beaten up for voicing their genuine and long pending demands in a peaceful manner. He also demanded that immediate relief must be given to all the injured people. He also called upon the police authorities to have utmost restraint while dealing with such peaceful protests. Vibodh further added that after the probe all those who are guilty of this must be punished for mercilessly beating the innocent locals of Nowshera. While demanding stern action against all those involved in this, Vibodh called for constitution of a high-level team which can look into the genuine grievances of the poor and marginalized people of Nowshera".
And the statement which he issued within minutes seeking withdrawal of his earlier statement read: "Dear all, This is to request you to kindly ignore my just sent press note on Nowshera lathi-charge. As I am collecting more information on this so I will send a fresh press note. Till then, my earlier press note on Nowshera lathi-charge my kindly be ignored. In the mean time, many political organizations such as Panthers Party and civil society groups, including Jammu CCI, have condemned the police lathi-charge on the "peaceful unarmed people of Nowshera and demanded a probe into the whole incident.
