Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Mar 25: As working season under the financial year 2017-18 is coming to end, various developmental works under execution in Rural Development Department and Panchayat Raj in Kishtwar have suffered badly due to shortage of cement.
As per details available with Early Times, Kishtwar is short of around 10000 to 15000 cement bags. The job cardholders in block Nagsani said that despite repeated request to concerned GRS and VLWs, they fail to provide the required cement for carrying out the left out works under MGNREGA.
They said that since last two weeks, the department has failed to provide cement to them and that they remain idle for whole day. They said the department is bound to provide them dailywages, but said that overall it hampers the development of the concerned Panchayat. They called for immediate restoration of cement supply to the district.
"Due to snowfall, work for around 2-3 months remains suspended. It is only in the month of March when majority of works under MGNREGA were taken up," said the people. They demanded that the department should be allowed to purchase the cement from open market.
Accepting the concern of the people, a senior RDD official said that they were already on job and added that the problem will be sorted out soon.
He said that in case the need arises, they can accommodate few days of next working season in current one so that the target could be achieved. He said that few days ago they received some cement supply but it was insufficient.
