Rehriwalas rue selective anti-encroachment drive in Kishtwar

Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Mar 25: Rehriwalas and vendors today rued the selective encroachment drive carried out by the officials of the Municipal Committee Kishtwar along with the officials of the administration and Police in Kishtwar town and it's adjoining areas and termed it as anti poor.
The affected people said that the permanent structures which were erected by the people all along the road right from Malipath to New DC Office Complex Kishtwar have not been touched upon. This they said reflected that both administration and police has turned blind eye towards the issue as the people involved in this are either rich or politically influential.
Speaking to Early Times, the Rehriwalas said that they were hand to mouth after the selective drive by the administration and called for their rehabilitation without any further delay. They said that their children and their education are suffering due to anti poor people decision of the government.
They said that Municipality officials first allow them to install Khokas and Rehries by collecting hafta from them and later demolish their structures which they build since years out of its hard earned money.
"We have approached the municipality officials several times for permanent registration of their Rehries and Khokas--but every time they assured us that nothing will happen to them and no one will remove them," said an angry youth adding that government is busy in rehabilitation of anti nationals, stone pelters, militants and surrendered militants while they have no policy to rehabilitate them.
Another youth said that they have received a notice from Municipal officials last week asking them to vacate the Khokas which were allotted to them by Municipality Committee Kishtwar. They said that they are ready to vacate the Khokas for paying way towards road widening and demanded suitable and alternative accommodation for running their businesses.
The people also rued the Municipality officials for their failure in removing the shops constructed by them outside Police Station Kishtwar as same are coming under the road alignment beside the lease agreement of the shop owners expired several months ago and even concerned Patwari serve the notice for evacuation to the shopkeepers and Khokas, but it was found that the lease out shops were further lease out by the tenant in violation of the rules and regulations.
It is pertinent to mention that around 2 KM road stretch from Malipath to Kuleed Chowk is highly congested road and is heavily encroached from both side while at the same time the administration has started widening of the road from government run office and presently the work is going on at war footing bases on ITI ground land to be followed by land of Old DC office complex, Court Complex, Police Station and Municipality land which presently had some shops constructed which is considered as major hurdle in ongoing road project and need to be demolished without any further delay.
