RTI seeking flood relief details
Appeal moved against Tehsildar Pattan
4/12/2018 10:55:28 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, April : Information seeker who was denied information about 2014 flood relief disbursement by Tehsildar Pattan under J&K RTI Act 2009 has filed appeal before the First Appellate Authority (FAA) ie Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla. Tehsildar who is also the designated Public Information Officer (PIO) had not only denied the information but also rejected the RTI application. Sources say that senior officers have castigated the officer for misinterpreting the RTI law.
As reported already, one Karar Hassan Reshi R/O Hagarpora Budibugh Teshil Pattan district Baramulla had filed an RTI application before Executive Magistrate (Tehsildar Pattan) on 6.3.2018. Information seeker sought details about relief provided to flood victims of his area.
RTI activist Karar Rehsi has now filed 1st appeal before Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla against the order of PIO ie Tehsildar Pattan. " I am hopeful ADC will give me justice and admonish the PIO plus recommend him for penalty before State Information Commission (SIC) " said Karar Reshi while talking to Early Times.
Pertinently Govt is under legal obligation to create awareness on RTI and section 23 of J&K RTI Act 2009 lays emphasis on this. It seems PIOs have not been trained by the Govt and that is the reason Teshildar called J&K RTI Act 2009 as J&K RTI Act 2012 . "I am unable to understand why my RTI application has not been filed in accordance with the RTI Act / Rules ? I have filed dozens of RTI applications in past but no PIO raised such an illogical and absurd query " Karar Reshi said.
