| As PDP ministers stay away, Mattoo joins Mehbooba in fire fighting | | Kulgam killings | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 12: Even as most of the PDP ministers did not join Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in this "hour of crises" in Kashmir, her Advisor Prof Amitabh Mattoo morning rushed to Srinagar on Thursday.
Sources said finding Mehbooba camping alone in the summer capital for a day, Mattoo cancelled his scheduled conference on a crucial subject in New Delhi and rushed to Srinagar by first flight on Thursday morning.
Sources said from Srinagar airport, Mattoo drove straight to Mehbooba and deliberated upon how to overcome unrest in Kashmir, in the wake of killing of four civilians who lost their lives while "salvaging militants in besieged Kulgam."
Sources in CM's secretariat said apart from holding meeting with the CM, Mattoo has initiated deliberations with official machinery.
Source said Mattoo is keen on peace during summers so that normal life doesn't get affected any further. It was reliably learnt that he has started lobbying with the stakeholders within and outside the state.
Mattoo holds the cadre of Cabinet minister in the state government. "It's likely that he will use his good offices to ease out situation in Kashmir very soon," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Pertinently, since April 1, Mehbooba flew to Kashmir twice in the wake of killings but that most of her party colleagues in the Cabinet, all of whom are from Kashmir, stayed away from the restive Valley on both the occasions.
Sources said her Cabinet colleagues have their own reasons to be away from Kashmir during turmoil. "We want to be away till the situation cools down naturally," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
It's for the second time within fortnight that CM had to rush to Srinagar for "firefighting" but without her Cabinet colleagues.
Despite repeated attempts, Mattoo couldn't be contacted for comments. |
