Many industrial plots allotted to entrepreneurs lie idle | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 14: Despite multiple warnings, government has failed to retrieve industrial land from many entrepreneurs who failed to set up their business units on the allotted land for the last many years. Since 1995, government has allotted hundreds of kanals to entrepreneurs to set up their land at Samba, Bari Brahmana, Rangreth, Lassipora, Kathua, Khonmoh and Gangyal industrial estate's. However, many have failed to set up units, leaving the land idle. According to sources, scores of aspiring entrepreneurs were allotted land by SIDCO at the low prices aimed at generation of employment opportunities and to grow the industrial sector of the state who over the years have failed to establish their business units.. However, these entrepreneurs as per the officials had failed to come up with the explanation regarding the non-utilization of the land. Sources said poor infrastructure, lack of government's attention is the main reason for failure of retrieval of land from entrepreneurs who also have failed to utilize it on time and have been able to take advantage of the time extension given by the government from time to time. A senior official at State Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) admitted that entrepreneurs from past many years have been served notices and had failed to avail the opportunities. "We are serving cancellation notifications of land to these idling entrepreneurs after the completion of legal procedures," he said. "Hundreds of entrepreneurs across the state were the opportunity by establishing their units on the land allotted to them and have missed many deadlines now the government will act tough against them," he added. Meanwhile many failed entrepreneurs complained that the land allotted to them lacks proper arrangement of water supply, electricity and other necessities required at the site of industrial units and is the reason for non setting up the industrial units and blamed the SIDCO for failing to act as a nodal agency for the promotion and development of medium, large and mega industries. Meanwhile, a senior SIDCO official said that under the new Industrial Policy, the entrepreneurs have to set up units within two years after allotment of the land. "If they fail then they have to return the land to the government," the official added. While more than 200 sick units in the state mocks at the tall claims of government of having improving the industrial sector in state. According to the official figures, 80 sick industrial units have been identified in Kashmir region with Srinagar district topping the list having 35 units followed by Pulwama with around 15 units. In Jammu region, Jammu district has around 60 sick units followed by Udhampur and Samba districts having around 30 such units. |
