Dogra Front, RSS hold protest against impeachment of CJI
4/24/2018 11:06:27 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: The workers of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena under the leadership of President Ashok Gupta took out a protest rally in Jammu city against the impeachment motion on the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The party workers raised slogans that the apex court is temple of justice and impeachment is nothing less than an insult.
The leaders of several opposition parties are said to have begun consultations on initiating impeachment proceedings against the CJI. Gupta condemned the stand taken by political parties for their 'narrow political mileage' and disturbing the balance among the executive, legislature and judiciary, the three key wings of democracy.
The most senior judge of the Supreme Court, Justice J Chelameswar, whose public protest against the 'arbitrary' style of functioning of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra plunged the judiciary into a crisis and set off moves for the latter's removal, said on Saturday that the CJI's impeachment was not a solution and it is the system which needs to be made transparent.
He stated that various political parties are adopting 'intimidating' tactics towards the Supreme Court and its move was not an attack on the individual, but an institution as it wanted to create anarchy by making people 'lose' faith in the judiciary.
"My preliminary reaction to the impeachment motion filed today is clear. It is a revenge petition after the falsehood of the Political Party has been established in the Justice Loya death case. It is an attempt to intimidate a Judge and send a message to other Judges, that if you don't agree with us," said the judge.
The party people who were present at the time of protest included Nikku, Bantu, Ramesh, Parkash, Sham Lal, Krishna, Vijay, Shiv ram, Cheetu, Dinesh and Abhishek.
Seven Opposition parties led by the Congress had last week moved a notice for impeachment of the CJI on five grounds of 'mis-behaviour'. The members expressed shock and displeasure over the recent attempts at bringing in an impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
