| Whom should we listen to, say students | | Closure of coaching centres | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 24: There is confusion among the students after the government ordered closure of private tuition centres and the same has been defy by their proprietors.
Chaos was witnessed on Tuesday when students across Kashmir were confused whether they should attend the coaching centres or not. They don't know whether they should listen to government or owners of coaching centres.
Education Minister Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari has ordered closure if all private tuition centres for 90 days in Kashmir valley.
The announcement was made by Bukhari while chairing a meeting of Chief Education Officers (CEOs), Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) and Principals of Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) on Sunday.
Bukhari has also asked the Director School Education, Kashmir to submit list of teachers and lecturers who are working in private coaching centres. However, the coaching centres on Monday said that all the coaching institutions across Kashmir valley will start functionally normally.
While on Tuesday, there was complete confusion for the students due to contradictory announcements by the government and proprietors of coaching centres.
Adnan, who is enrolled in one of the coaching centres in Srinagar's uptown area at Baghat, said, "We don't know whether we have to go to tuition centres or not. We are totally in dilemma. I did not go to coaching centre in the morning and later my friends told that it was open," Adnan said.
Sumeya, a class 10th student said, "Government and coaching centres should make it clear for us what we have to do. There is complete chaos. Nobody thinks about students and give only contradictory statements."
She said, "When government ordered closure of coaching centres, but the coaching centre owners said they will defy it. Whom should we listen to," she said. The students said government and coaching centres should make clear on the issue. "They can't play with careers of students," they said.
The coaching centre owners have said that Government authorities should make it a point that usage of generic sweeping statements in relation to coaching institutes should be stopped.
They said: "We would never encourage and infact suggest the students not to take to roads to protest this decision. A students place is in the classroom and that is how it should be." |
