Private school vehicles put children to risk
ZEO Pouni to see to it later

Early Times Report
Pouni, Apr 24: The transportation system to ferry children to and fro from their respective private schools in tehsil Pouni of district Reasi is fraught with great dangers but the authorities seem unmoved.
Though there is a clear direction from the education ministry that a particular 'type' and model buses only, painted yellow and supporting all measures as per the guidelines should ply for ferrying children, contrarily it is opposite in Pouni tehsil.
Magic Tempo, Ecco and Tata 407 vehicles are hired by the private institutions to pick and drop the children for the schools which is an open violation of the norms and exposed the children to all traffic perils.
"We cannot list grievance with the school authorities as they will either take our wards to task or find excuse with him/her asking us to take the discharge certificate. Government schools are not that well equipped to disseminate quality education and hence we have to remain contended only," said parent of a child of a private school Pouni wishing not to be named.
Almost all parents had the same answer to Early Times team when it asked them as to why they do not approach the school authorities to rectify the system.
Zonal Education Officer Pouni was quite rude when asked as to why private institutions are not following the rules and guidelines set for the buses for transportation of the children to the school.
"We will see to it later ," was his reply to the Early Times.
As per the situation in Pouni , the seating arrangement of the children is so haphazard and overloaded which can invite any eventuality any time.
A Magic tempo having the seating capacity of 10 persons generally ferry 20-25 children, most of whom are seen hanging on the foot rest of the vehicle or are superimposed upon one another.
"Besides the serpentine roads with faulty banking at various places are always potential threat to these small vehicles overloaded with children that can invite any fatal accidents also," said another parent.
Unable to reach the school authorities as well as the concerned ZEO which the public of the area is very sure to be in connivance with the school authorities in getting his lion's share from the illegal earning from private school buses, they have urged the Education Minister Altaf Bhukari to take the cognizance of the matter.
