4/24/2018 11:10:18 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: Though malaria cases have registered a decline but dengue is on the rise in Jammu. The cases were exceptionally high compared to the number of cases detected during the previous a few years.
Malaria is a disease that's caused by mosquitos carrying malarial parasites.
There are at least five types of Plasmodium parasites that infect people, although P falciparum and P vivax are the most common and deadly. If left untreated, those with malaria may develop severe complications and even die.
As per the official data of the Directorate Health Service (DHS), claimed that Jammu has succeeded in controlling the Malaria cases with the decline every year. The Plasmodium Vivax (PV) and Plasmodium Falciparum (PF) cases have shown a downward trend in the last some years due to climate change and anti-malaria campaigns.
Data further states, the number of PV and PF cases has shown decline, as 226 cases in 2017 were recorded (225 PV and 1 PF cases). 291 cases were reported in 2014, in 2015, 216 cases and 2016, 242 cases were reported.
"The highest cases had been recorded by the Heath Department in 1996, when 14,289 malaria cases were recorded and in 2009-10, 802 patients were reported, which was a substantial decline, "sources quoted official data.
An official, wishing not to be named, told that the Malaria cases have not been absolutely eliminated in Jammu province but the graph has been down in substantial due to the climate changes and hoped that the State will control on the same shortly.
Therewith, the threat of Dengue is still looming large in the State large as the concerned authorities included JMC didn't start thermal fogging drive properly. As per officials, the fogging drive was started but only in VVIP areas.
