Early Times Report
Kulgam, Apr 24: A female doctor allegedly involved in Kulgam abortion racket continues to evade arrest.
The racket was busted by Kulgam police last December. Since then, Kulgam police has failed to arrest the doctor who was allegedly carrying out illegal abortions in a residential house at Malpora Mohalla of Kulgam.
Sources revealed that Kulgam police didn't make any effort to arrest the doctor when she was in the town. "She was allowed to travel back to New Delhi," they claimed.
The accused doctor is a non-local, a resident of New Delhi and is evading arrest, Station House Officer Kulgam, Gowher Ali said.
"It is true she is evading arrest, but now through her counsel she has moved the J&K High Court. The court has sought a report which we will be submitted in coming days," he said.
The SHO said that two other accused who were arrested by the police have been bailed out by a local court.
On December 17, 2017, the Kulgam police busted an illegal abortion ring in Kulgam district and apparently saved the life of a young girl who had been forcibly taken there for abortion.
An official said that police had received information that a man identified as Ishtiyaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Salam Bhat of Chakoo, Shopian along with a pregnant girl had gone to house of Ghulam Hassan Shah at Malpora Mohalla in order to illegally abort the pregnancy, where a woman (name withheld) performed these illegal abortions.
"On this information, Kulgam police along with magistrate raided the place. During search, hospital supply medicines and surgical items required for the said purpose were recovered," the official had said.
He said the culprits were apprehended on the spot and case FIR number 232/2017 under section 376, 312, 511RPC, 08 Nursing Act was registered and investigation started.
The Health department on the other hand also seemed to have buried the case of misuse of government supply medicines and surgical items under carpet as the department hasn't constituted any committee for probing the matter so far.
