| Congress seeks previous system of Panchayat Election | | | Early times Report
Udhampur, Apr 24 : Today a delegation led by Congress District Convernor Panchayti Raj Udhampur Suram Chand met with the Deputy Commissioner and submitted an memorandum to him in which congress District Convernor Stated that the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments were a landmark in the history of India by which the Congress party empowered the people at the grass root level.
The guiding principles and idealogy of the congress party is to emprower the people and it was the dream Mahatma Gandhi to transfer the political power at panchayet level when in all the states the panchayeti Raj amendments were adopted why in our State the BJP-PDP collusion government is hesitating and bent upon is crushing the rights of People here. It is a matter of great concern.
We appeal the present state Government to adopt the said amendments so that the real power may be transferred at grass root level and the basic institute of Panchayat at village level may be made more functional for the development the common people. We also warn the government that if the power is not transferred and previous system of panchayat election is not resorted by holding a direct election of sarpanches the congress Party will not sit silent and a chain of protests will he launched not only in this district but in the entire state.
