4/30/2018 11:08:47 PM
Early Times Report

Samba, Apr 30: Following allegations against Station House Officer (SHO) Purmandal of harassing the innocent people of the area, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Anil Magotra initiated inquiry into the matter and appointed SDPO Bari Brahmana as inquiry officer.
Locals of Purmandal on Monday held a press conference during which they accused the SHO, Inspector Javed Chowdhary, of harassing innocent people of the area.
This is not the first time when allegations of harassment and corruption have been levelled against the SHO.
Earlier also he was transferred after allegations levelled against him when he was dealing in case of suicide of a lady Army officer.
Not only this when he was posted as in-charge police post Sidhra he was attached after allegations levelled against him for blackmailing a couple and demanding money from them.
Now, he has been transferred by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone but not relieved yet.
While briefing media persons Kala Ram, of village Jalki and Kamal Kumar of Bhirdana district Fatehabad, Haryana said they belong to Haryana State and come to J&K for collection of money as they have sold the camel to the local people of Purmandal area on credit. In this connection they were visiting J&K and during the visit on 26-04-2018 they had receipt of the money from Attah Mohammad, resident of Bari Khad, Joginder Singh resident of Moutlian, Reham Din resident of Bari Khad and Ghara resident of Nandaka. During the night they were staying in the house of one Raj, resident of Ghair which comes in the jurisdiction of Police Station Purmandal.
"At about 10:30 pm, SHO Javed Chowdhary alongwith police party picked up both Kala Ram and Kamal Kumar from the house of Raj and kept them in the wrongful custody. Cash of Rs. 73000 which was collected by Kala Ram and Kamal Kumar was also seized by the police", said locals, adding that after conducting enquiry, SHO Purmandal released Kala Ram and Kamal Kumar but returned Rs. 34,000 only instead of Rs. 73000.
When Kala Ram and Kamal Kumar urged the SHO to return the rest of their money, he threatened that he would involve them in a criminal case.
It is pertinent to mention here that the people of the area had also approached the SHO Purmandal and requested him to release the Kala Ram and Kamal Kumar. But the SHO Purmandal ignored their pleas.
The people of the area said the conduct of the SHO Purmandal is very rude. They said he is "very corrupt person and without any reason he is harassing and torturing the innocent people of the area."
The people of Purmandal urged Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take disciplinary action against the corrupt officer and immediately attach him otherwise they would be compelled to launch agitation. They also urged the Director General of Police J&K to ask the SHO Purmandal to return the whole money of innocent Kala Ram and Kamal Kumar.
The prominent people who were present in the press conference were Reham Din, Shahzad Ahmed, Zasin, Khair Din, Naresh Kumar, Sewa Ram, Mohd. Rafiq, Saleem Chowdhary, Shameem, Mustaq Ahmed, Kala Chowdhary, Mir Khan, and Hussain Mohd.
