'Bad-bishops' make comeback in Mehbooba's Cabinet, loyalists shown door
4/30/2018 11:56:34 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 30: Even the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti inducted two more lawmakers from her Peoples Democratic Party (PPD) into the Cabinet here today, the rumor mills are rife that over the months "all bad bishops made comeback while loyalists were shown door."
Sources said a section of top leadership in the party is unhappy that "loyalists" like some close relatives of the party top brass were shown the door, whereas some of those who were accused of having tried "coup" in the past have been "fully rehabilitated."
Sources said after coming to power Mehbooba Mufti had dropped some of the ministers from the previous Cabinet headed by her father late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed on allegations of having tried to "destabilize her central authority" after Mufti's demise.
But after today's Cabinet, a lobby within the PDP has started saying that "Bad Bishops are back with a bang."
"What is paining us all is that the loyalists are being put to tests and are being subsequently sidelined, whereas conspirators now enjoy more power in the party," said a senior PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
He said a group of senior leaders in the party were against the "re-induction of the faces who were facing allegations of revolt in the past."
"There was need to learn lessons from past and to send a message to the party cadres that the Bad Bishops will have to pay for their deeds. But what we have been bearing is that Bad Bishops have been enjoying extremes of power," the PDP leader said.
Sources said a day ahead of the oath-taking held on April 30, a section of PDP leaders had been lobbying that "re-induction of all conspirators will set a bad precedence." "But our suggestions were trashed," the leaders said.
A few months ago, the PDP ousted one of its senior leaders from the Cabinet. Though that time the PDP gave a feel that the leader from South Kashmir was removed to pave way for induction of new face, the notion failed to hold waters.
"Since then three more faces have been inducted but none was removed, so it means that the party wanted only one person out," the PDP leader said.
When contacted a senior party leader said all the issues with those who were accused of being "Bad Bishops" have been resolved. "We have pacified as there was a need to end infighting."
