Modi should speak for 2 minutes about why Rassana case is 'minor issue': Omar | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 2: Reacting to the Prime Minister daring the Congress President to speak for 15 minutes without a paper, former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said once Rahul Gandhi does that, perhaps Narendra Modi should be asked to speak for 2 minutes about why rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl is 'a minor issue'. "I hope @RahulGandhi takes up the Hon PM's challenge & speaks w/out using notes for 15 min about the Karnataka Govt & then perhaps we can ask the Hon PM to speak for 2 min about why the rape & murder of an 8 year old girl is 'a minor issue'," Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. In his chide over Mr Modi's statement on Mr Gandhi, the NC working president referred to the comment made by newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister of the state Kavinder Gupta, who sparked a controversy after he termed rape and brutal murder of Kathua minor girl as a 'minor issue'. Mr Gupta's comments on the rape and murder case came even as the induction of another BJP MLA Rajiv Jasrotia in the State Cabinet received widespread criticism as he also allegedly participated in Hindu Ekta Manch rally, which was organized in support of the Kathua case accused. Two BJP MLAs Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga lost their ministerial berths in the cabinet after their participation in the same rally in Kathua on April 4 drew criticism from all sections of the society across the country. Reacting to Mr Jasrotia induction, Mr Abdullah said Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and BJP seemed confused about their stand on the Kathua case. "2 BJP ministers removed in J&K for attending a pro-rapist rally & a MLA who is reported to have attended the same rally is promoted as a minister. Why are the BJP/ @MehboobaMufti confused about where they stand on the #Kathua rape?," Mr Abdullah tweeted on Monday. |
