Early Times Report
Rajouri, May 14: The Sunderbani police allegedly beat up a poor man in custoday after which he admitted to a hospital.
Chamel Singh, son of Babu Ram, of village Upper Kangri of Sunderbani, alleged that the police arrested him on the complaint lodged by some people over a land dispute. He alleged that the other party had a close relative in police who is deputed in police station Sunderbani.
"The police picked me up from my house on May 12 morning and took me to police station where they beat me severely and then dropped me at my home in the night," he alleged, adding that his condition got deteriorated and he started vomiting.
Immediately, his family members shifted him to Sub District Hospital. The attitude of police was strongly criticized by the local people. They alleged that police have no right to beat any person.
The family warned that if something happened to him, police will be solely responsible. The locals alleged that not only the incumbent SHO, his predecessor Ravinder Parihar also misused his powers and lodged a number of fake FIRs against innocents.
When a senior police officer was contacted in this connection, he feigned ignorance and asked Early Times correspondent to talk to SHO Sunderbani. The SHO did not, however, respond to repeated calls.
