Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 14: Apart from revolt that took place due to at least two reshuffles and induction of new ministers from the PDP's quota, senior PDP leader Abdul Rehman Veeri was transferred four times in the last three years of the coalition regime.
Veeri was sworn in as Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaf in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led government on March 3, 2015. After death of Mufti Sayeed in January 2016, the array of transfers from one department to another begun for Veeri that continued till the last reshuffle took place in April this year.
However, he was not dropped like his other comrades since March 2015 but has been assigned fifth department within three years and one month term of PDP-BJP government.
In Mehbooba-led cabinet formed in 2016 after death of Mufti Sayeed, Veeri was made Minister for Public Works, but within 10 months his portfolio was again changed. He got the ministers of Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Parliamentary Affairs which were held by Chief Minister Mehbooba after expelling Javid Mustafa Mir and changing portfolios held by Basharat Bukhari.
Within nine months, Veeri again went through change in his portfolios; however, this time Disaster Management, Relief, Rehab, reconstruction was snatched from him and Haj and Auqaf added in list of already held Revenue, Parliamentary Affairs by him in December 2017.
Veeri again went through change in portfolio within four months. On April 30, 2018, Mehbooba assigned Veeri Rural Development and Panchayati Raj ministry while dropping old comrade Abdul Haq Khan who was holding the department since beginning of PDP-BJP alliance headed by Mufti Sayeed since March 3, 2015.
Taking dig on frequent change in portfolios of Veeri, a senior PDP leader said that if the Chief Minister "does not trust Veeri Sahib, he should be dropped like other leaders rather than being humiliated time and again."
"It is humiliation, or you can say punishment. Within 3 years and one month, a senior leader has faced five time changes in his portfolios", the leader said, adding that 'unofficial' advisors are misleading Mehbooba.
