Rajouri, May 14: As another skeleton falls from cupboard of Social Forestry Department Sunderbani, there are strong reasons to believe that the people who run the department treat it as their personnel fiefdom.
It has been discovered that the Social Forestry Department has encroached upon a closure, 2kilometers from Sunderbani at Thandapani under block number 47-48/D Thandapani. "After having encroached the campa closure, the departmental officials dug out a plan to erect a pond in the area and in this regard released Rs one laKH from the department under the self cheque scheme which is illegal," said a lower rung official of the department wishing not to be named.
He further disclosed that only Rs 10,000 were spent to erect the pond which too could not sustain the deficient material used in construction and in the process a wall of the pond caved in. When approached the incharge ranger and DFO refused to comment on the damage and directed the Early Times team to get the ground facts from the director's office . Incharge ranger in the department also confessed to the query from the ET that since he holds the middlemen's position in the hierarchy of the department for arranging money for his superiors, he is in strong position and no authority can challenge him on any account.
The Commissioner Secretary Saurabh Bhagat when contacted assured to look into the affair .
" I will take up the matter personally and if any fault or frivolous activity is discovered to have been executed in the department , the culprits will be brought to the book ," said Saurab Bhagat |
