Why JU fails to revive two PG courses in DDE, questions NSF
5/15/2018 12:09:11 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 14: Flaying the authorities at the helm of affairs in University of Jammu (JU), the National Secular Forum (NSF) expressed resentment over the deteriorating system in Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) which led to failure in reviving the PG courses in Economics and Political Science which were closed three years ago.
Addressing a press conference, NSF State Secretary Ishtiaq Naik lambasted the Vice Chancellor for derailing the academic process in DDE owing to his prejudices and vested interest. "It is the poor administration of Vice Chancellor which led to closure of PG courses in Economics and Political Science which were otherwise running smoothly in DDE," he said.
The Vice Chancellor failed to fix the responsibility of closure of those courses and didn't even try to revive those as if he had interest in the same, he said adding that the Vice Chancellor only played politics and spoiled the academics in DDE by promoting favoritism and nepotism.
He also said, "The matter regarding the engagement of contractual teaching faculty was taken up by the Campus Deans in their meeting on July 7, 2015 wherein it was resolved that one lecturer be engaged for enrolment of 500 candidates for PG courses in DDE and no recruitment was required for UG courses. But, the VC Prof Ramji Dass are willfully ignoring the resolution. It speaks volume about the anarchy spread by the JU authorities with respect to obeying resolutions of Campus Dean meeting," he elaborated.
He also cited the engagement of contractual lecturer in Dogri for PG course which recorded enrolment figure of 182 and 175 respectively for sessions 2016-17 and 2017-18. He alleged that pick and choose was being followed by the authorities at the helm of affairs in JU. He blamed the Vice Chancellor for deliberately indulging in such acts to settle the personal agendas.
Ishtiaq Naik also questioned the rationale behind advertisement of contractual posts in DDE especially for those courses wherein permanent faculty members were already engaged. "It is surprising that permanent faculty members in few subjects were not performing any duties for the last many years but still the Vice Chancellor wants contractual teachers in those subjects. He should make it clear as to who he is favouring through creation of these positions," he added.
