PDD's need-based, casual workers stage protest for release of pending wages

Rajouri, Oct 24: Daily wager/need base and casual labours associated with EM & RE wing of Power Development Department (PDD) Rajouri division today organised a protest rally at Rajouri in favour of their long pending demands.
The rally was taken out from the office of XEN, PDD to the office of deputy commissioner (DC) Rajouri.
Large number of these workers from other divisions including Kalakot, Moughla, Treru, Khawas, Kotranka, Sunderbani, Nowshera joined the rally being organised by the workers from Rajouri division.
Before taking out the rally, Sushil Sharma, district president of the union organised a meeting of the workers.
The meeting was also attended by Akhil Sharma, Mohd Sajjad, Daljeet Singh, M.Bhardwaj, Rakesh Kumar, Mohd Azam & others
The workers have been demanding release of their pending salaries for the last about seven years.
"The department has not released the pending wages despite the matter was taken up several times with the higher authorities" said Sushil Sharma.
He added the prices of essential commodities raising day by day and the poor labourers facing many hardships in running their domestic affairs with such a small amount .
"The children of these poor workers are deprived of their basic right of education as the parents are not in a position to pay the fees. They also can't afford the treatment of their old age parents/relatives "said Sharma.
He said the State government adopting duel policy in dealing to the demands of the workers. In Kashmir valley the workers are being paid regularly from out sources while workers in Jammu province are being ignored.
"In Kashmir division out of 7500 need based/ casual workers associated with PDD about 50% have been regularised while in none among 3405 workers was regularised nor they were given wages since a long time.
They alleged that their record was sent to the S&O wing Jammu several times, but it was not further forwarded to Development Commissioner Power for further consideration & the concerned senior officers playing with the career of hundreds of workers.
