Militants eyeing Srinagar, 5 killed in 2 operations in city
10/24/2018 10:38:28 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 24: Security Forces tightening noose around the militants in south Kashmir is pushing them towards the Srinagar city.
Just within a span of few days two encounters have taken place in the city. In the first encounter three militants were killed at Fateha Kadal in Srinagar's old city, while on Wednesday two more militants were shot dead in Nowgam area on city outskirts.
Sources told Early Times that militants are shifting their base from south Kashmir to central and northern Kashmir to spread their network in the city and in other districts. "Security Forces are zeroing on their hideouts in south Kashmir and are not allowing them to move out. They (militants) are feeling the heat and are desperate to save their lives," they added.
An official said that security agencies are aware about the fact that militants are moving towards Srinagar city. "There is nothing to panic we are tracking their movements and by entering into city they are digging their own grave," the official claimed.
He said, "We have got clear cut orders to go after the militants and wherever we will get them they would be killed."
An insider said that security forces have been asked to ensure that Srinagar city remains militancy free and militants should not succeed in spreading their network in the summer capital. "Militants are desperate to make their presence felt and they know it very well that if they carry out any major strike in Srinagar it would become big news," he added.
An official said, "Militants by taking refuge in Srinagar want to maintain a low profile. Both the encounters which took place in Srinagar during the past few days were initiated by the security forces and were carried out after specific inputs about the presence of militants in the residential areas. We won't allow them to establish their hideouts in the city. Militants should bear in mind that they cannot hide themselves anymore as the "Operation All Out" is in its decisive phase against them."
It may be recalled that Governor Satya Pal Malik had recently said that to eliminate 400 militants is no big task for a country like India and the people who are talking about separate state should stop even dreaming about it. ""Militants do not have much of a shelf life. The situation is not grave. Since I have joined, about 40 militants have been killed, stone pelting has come down and the number of local youths joining militancy has also come down. I am satisfied that on this front there is no worrying situation," he had said.
