270 candidates including 57 women files nominations for 288 Panchayat constituencies

Rajouri, Oct 27: 270 candidates including 85 women have filed their nomination papers at the end of 4th day for the first phase of Panchayat elections in Rajouri district scheduled to be held on November 17.
In the first phase of Panchayat elections the polling will be held in Manjakot and Panjgrain blocks for 35 Panchayats including 253 constituencies of Panches.
The notification for the elections was issued on October 23 and the polling will be held on November 17 and if would be feasible the results will be declared on the same day.
Bilal Mir, media coordinator officer said that for 24 constituencies of sarpanches in Manjakot block, 31 men and 11 women have filed their nomination papers while 110 men and 52 women have filed nomination papers for the panch.
In Panjgrain block 11 men and 4 women have filed nomination papers for the posts of sarpanch and 33 men and 18 women have filed papers for the posts of panch. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sher Singh informed that every possible arrangement for the smooth elections has been made.
"48 polling stations in Rajouri district falls under direct shelling/ firing from across the border (including in Manjakot & Panjgarain blocks). Alternate arrangements have been made in case of any such incident on or before the polling day" said ADC.
He added the polling for second phase of panchayat elections will be held on November 20 and polling will be held from 8 am to 2pm. Model code of conduct will remain in force till the poll process is completed. Panchayat polls were last held in Jammu & Kashmir in 2011.
