Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: After scrapping of current Health Insurance Policy for the employees of the state government, questions are being asked whether the government will take up the matter regarding earlier insurance scam which took place over a decade ago, in which Govt had paid Rs 7.50 Cr in excess to a particular insurance company.
Sources told Early Times that the recent move of Government to scrap health insurance policy has brought with it many controversies, as this was not the single case in which employees were betrayed though in past also the financial damage was caused by the Government.
"In the year of 2003, the then government had introduced Mediclaim Policy in collaboration with National Insurance Company for the Government employees for availing free health facilities. An amount of Rs 2.50 cr was to be paid to the Company by the Government as an installment but astonishingly Government paid Rs 10 Cr, i.e. Rs 7.50 cr in excess," they said.
They further alleged that the then Secretary Finance Department had made the payment in excess by brushing aside interests of employees ostensibly for personal interest.
"Although, government after realizing deliberate blunder by the officials, made many attempts to recover the money paid in excess but failed to recover the same, now after the present Government has scrapped the recent Reliance Health Insurance, the people have expressed hope that the incumbent government will take up this matter also to recover the amount and initiation of the strict action against erring officials," they said.
Moreover, the employees have been expressing apprehensions that the health insurance premium deducted by the concerned DDOs from their salary for the first quarter may also not face the same fate which was faced by them decade ago.
