Stone-pelters turn murderers, deserve stern punishment
10/27/2018 10:32:47 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: A day after a 22-year old Army jawan Sepoy Rajendra Singh died after being hit by a stone on his head in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat declared stone pelters as the over ground workers of the terrorists.
"Sepoy Rajendra Singh was part of a quick reaction team which was providing security to a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) convoy on Thursday. At around 1800 hrs, when the convoy was passing through the Anantnag bypass tri-junction near NH-44, few miscreants hurled stones at the vehicle and Singh was injured after being hit by a stone directly on the head," defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.
He said Singh was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital where the soldier succumbed to injuries.
Reacting to the killing of an Army jawan, the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said, "Stone pelters in Jammu and Kashmir are overground workers of terrorist groups and should be dealt with sternly."
An official said that time has come for the security forces to make the stone-pelters taste the dose of their own medicine. "We cannot keep on exercising restraint and allow the stone pelters to kill us. We have to deal with them sternly so that they don't even dare to come close to the vehicles of the security forces," the official added.
A Kashmir watcher said that stone-pelters killing an Army jawan should serve as an eye opener for the Kashmir centric politicians, who have been patronizing the stone pelters and announced amnesty for more than 10,000 stone-pelters. "These politicians should break their silence and apologize to the family member of Sepoy Rajendra Singh," he added.
A defence analyst said that stone-pelting has emerged as a monster in Kashmir Valley. "Kashmir centric politicians for safeguarding their vested interests projected these miscreants as innocent youth. These so-called innocent youth are now emerging as a full-fledged threat and are turning out to be the murderers," the analyst added.
He said that wrongs committed by the Kashmir centric politicians have to be undone. "Security agencies should launch a crackdown against these stone-pelters and book them under Public Safety Act. They deserve stern punishment. Today these miscreants are pelting stones, tomorrow they can pick up the guns and shower bullets. It's an alarming situation and needs to be handled without wasting anymore time," he added.
It's in place to mention here that terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba has been praising stone-pelters and has been terming them as their "foot soldiers." "The terror outfit owning stone-pelters is an ample proof about the fact that these miscreants are connected to terror groups and are taking instructions from the terrorists," said a defence analyst.
