Ex-Cong MLA says he is scared of militants
HC asks Govt to consider his plea for security
10/27/2018 10:12:38 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 27: The state High Court has directed government to consider plea of a former Congress MLA from Kulgam district of south Kashmir, seeking security in wake of the threat perception to him. The petitioner, Abdul Rehman Dar, submitted that he is a senior Congress leader hailing from Kulgam and has served as full term MLA for Homshalibugh assembly constituency. He also submitted that he is still associated with the Congress.
"Due to present turmoil in the Valley petitioner has migrated from his home constituency to Srinagar keeping in view threat perception to his life at the hands of militants.
It is contended that the government has not provided any accommodation and security to the petitioner despite having threat
perception," Dar said in his petition.
He said he had from time to time approached the Director General of Police requesting him for accommodation at Srinagar and other facilities at par with similarly circumstanced persons. However, though the petitioner's application was processed and he was assured to be provided accommodation
and other facilities at Srinagar, till date neither accommodation nor any other facility has been provided to him.
He said he is completely scared at the hands of the militants and he is moving from place to place to hide himself and save his life.
"The right to life is a fundamental right as guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. Petitioner has approached this court by filing the writ petition, whereby ,he is seeking direction to the respondents to provide security as well as accommodation at par with similarly circumstanced
persons, that is, ex-MLAs, ex-MPs and ex-MLCs," a bench of Justice Tashi Rabastan said.
"The respondents to consider the claim as projected by the petitioner having regard to the guidelines," the court said and directed government do the needful within a period of four weeks.
