US friendly move towards India
12/3/2018 8:39:06 PM
The US has shown interest in the security and stability of India which has been reciprocated by New Delhi. This is indicated by the way the US has announced a US$ five million reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction in any country of any individual who committed, conspired, aided or abetted the 2008 Mumbai attack.Beginning on November 26, 2008, and continuing through November 29, 2008, 10 attackers trained by the Pakistan-based foreign terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had carried out a series of coordinated attacks against multiple targets in Mumbai, including the Taj Mahal hotel, the Oberoi hotel, the Leopold Café, the Nariman (Chabad) House, and the Chhatarapati Shivaji Terminus train station, killing approximately 170 persons. Six Americans were killed during the three-day siege: Ben Zion Chroman, Gavriel Holtzberg, Sandeep Jeswani, Alan Scherr, his daughter Naomi Scherr, and Aryeh Leibish Teitelbaum. It means that the US is trying to hook up Hafiz Saeed who is alleged to be the mastermind of the Mumbai attack The United States has described the Mumbai terror attack as a "barbarity", US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called upon Pakistan and other nations to uphold their UN Security Council obligations to implement sanctions against those responsible for the atrocity, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates. On the 10th anniversary of the Mumbai terror attack, the state department's Rewards for Justice (RFJ) programme offered a new reward for up to USD 5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of any individual who was involved in planning or facilitating the 2008 Mumbai attack. "It is an affront to the families of the victims that, after 10 years, those who planned the Mumbai attack have still not been convicted for their involvement," Pompeo said in a statement on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack. "Washington has called upon all countries, particularly Pakistan, to uphold their UN Security Council obligations to implement sanctions against the terrorists responsible for this atrocity, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates," Pompeo said. After 10 years the US has initiated moves to uncover the intricacicies of the Mumbai attack. As many as 166 people, including Americans, were killed in the attack carried out by 10 LeT terrorists. Nine of the attackers were killed by the police while lone survivor Ajmal Kasab was captured and hanged after he was handed down death sentence by an Indian court. The US support to India is a slap on the face of Pakistan. Hope Pakistan Army have learnt a lesson from the new regime in the US and one expects Pakistan to initiate measures against terrorists of various names that could end the turmoil in Afghanistan and also India's Jammu and Kashmir.
