Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 3: Showing signs of bankruptcy, the Congress party has reportedly asked the office bearers of Youth Congress to raise funds for the party during Jansampark Abhiyan in the state.
The booklets, each comprising 100 leaflets, for the collection of money were distributed during the meeting of State Executive Committee of Youth Congress on Monday at Pradesh Congress Committee Office Shaheedi Chowk Jammu.
Only half of the executive committee members and only three members from Kashmir attended the meeting.
The meeting of the Executive Committee run in rough weather on Monday again and the Jammu and Kashmir state incharge of Youth Congress Sheshpal Keharwala had to walk out after an hour only. "The office bearers from Kashmir valley expressed concern over failure of Jammu counterparts to visit the valley forcing them to visit Jammu time and again for meetings.
Sources further said that some of the members expressed resentment against the working of one of the office bearers and also asked the higher leadership to shun alleged Kashmir appeasement policy. "The Jammu office bearers made it clear to the party high command that if the Party would not shun the Pro-Kashmir stance then it would loss in Jammu as well, which was also evident during campaign of Municipal elections", sources said, adding that the chair failed to address the concerns of the Jammu based office bearers and the meeting ended up in a hurry.
Though the meeting was about to last for 3-4 hours but sources available in the meeting informed Early Times that the Incharge Youth Congress left the meeting after only one hour. "Later he invited the office bearers of Youth Congress one by one in his chamber to distribute funds collection copies rather than discussing issues", sources said, adding that each copy included leaflets bearing amount of Rs. 100, 500 and Rs. 1000 and total amount in the copy was Rs. 11,000.
Sources said that each office bearer was asked to take few copies with them and raise funds for the party. "An office bearer, took 20 copies with him and assured the high command collection of the money", sources said, adding that some of the members showed resentment against the party decision.
"We had recently collected funds for party during membership drive. The fee for each member was Rs. 125 and online membership fee was Rs. 75 and 34,000 members were enrolled during membership drive in Jammu", sources said, adding that now the party imposed another fund raising decision.
The Jammu office bearers asked the party high command to distribute the fund raising copies equally between Jammu as well as Kashmir. "The maximum office bearers are from Jammu and party want to loot the unemployed youth of Jammu, which is unbearable to us", a member said, adding that it appeared that the party has gone bankrupt and banking upon the membership fee for its finances.
