In PDP's letter to PM, POK means 'Pakistan Administered Kashmir'
12/3/2018 10:49:03 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 3: In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the Peoples Democratic Party has shockingly called the PoK, which actually means Pakistan Occupied Kashmir as "Pakistan Administered Kashmir".
Welcoming the opening of Kartarpur corridor for Sikh pilgrims, former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti recently wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking opening of road to Sharda Peeth, a Hindu shrine in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
But Mehbooba has made mention of PoK as Pakistan Administered Kashmir. "Sharda Peeth in Pak administered Kashmir is an outstanding relic of Kashmir's glowing history. Though it generally connects the people here with their cultural and intellectual roots, for the Kashmiri Pandits it is an important place of pilgrimage which has frequented by them till Independence," Mufti wrote in her letter.
It is not for the first time that the PDP has spoken Pakistan-friendly language. The party which has allegedly taken some of the former militants as its senior leaders has long been known for the alleged pro-Pakistan stand.
In 2015, at the oath-taking ceremony of the PDP-BJP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP had thanked Pakistan. But interestingly BJP had remained silent.
Sources said the Prime Minister's office has taken serious note of the mention of PoK as Pakistan Administered Kashmir. "How can someone whose swears by Indian constitution refer to PoK with such seditious terms that too in a letter addressed to PM," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
The people from Pandith community said the letter has become a crude joke.
"Having been rejected by the Kashmiri Muslims, the PDP now wants to gain mileage in the Pandith community but this party has done so by rubbing salt on our wounds through the kind of vocabulary that has been mentioned in the letter," said a senior Pandith leader.
Sources the PDP had deliberately mentioned to the PoK with such a term in the letter. "There was a lot of discussion in the party leadership on how to refer to the other Kashmir. But finally on consensus it was decided to refer to the territory as Pakistan administered Kashmir," said a PDP leader.
Despite repeated attempts Mehbooba Mufti couldn't be contacted for comments.
