12/3/2018 9:14:44 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 3: Expressing strong resentment over non-abolition of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur, despite implementation of GST (Goods and Services Tax) in the State, Panthers Party reiterated demand to abolish Toll Tax at Lakhanpur.
In a press statement, Panthers Party District Jammu Urban President Rajiv Mahajan said common man of the State is unable to face the brunt of double taxation in the State. The way the State Government has adopted GST without abolishing Toll Tax at Lakhanpur is a strong blow to the Centre Government's move for One Nation-One Tax,", he said, adding the retention of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur has skyrocketed the prices of commodities of common use."We are seeking abolition of toll tax ever since government introduced the GST," he added.
He further said that Toll tax at Lakhanpur after the GST should have been abolished,'' he said adding that the products and goods reach to common consumers at higher prices. Rajiv sought immediate abolition of the said tax in J&K like other states of the country in the interest of the traders and particularly the consumers.
He said that the state government imposing toll tax at Lakhanpur on trucks carrying goods into the State had led to double taxation which overtly violated the very principle of one nation, one tax which formed the very foundation of GST. Asserting that the extra charge made goods costlier, he sought immediate closure of the Lakhanpur Toll Plaza in the interest of the common masses. He said that any additional levies and cesses in J&K in addition to GST making essential commodities costlier which is not tolerated by the common man. He said it is the common man who is bearing the brunt of any such taxes levied in addition to the GST.
He said that toll tax on some items like cement, steel continues at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza which has escalated cost of construction work resulting in double expenditure in construction of dream houses and if it continues, it will be difficult for common man to construct house with limited budget. He also ridiculed claims of Modi Govt to providing homes for all by 2020 keeping in view the toll tax on goods at Lakhanpur after implementation of GST in state. He sought immediate abolition of the said tax in J&K from all goods like other states of the country. Mahajan appealed to the Governor Satya Pal Mailk to take aforesaid matter seriously and asked concerned department to stop toll tax on all items at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza.
