Another step in offing against highly qualified unemployed youth
Finance deptt gives go ahead to enhance retirement age of College professors
1/24/2019 11:18:11 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 24: In yet another move detrimental to the future of thousands of highly qualified youth of the state, the Finance department has given green signal to the proposal for enhancing the retirement age of College professors from existing 60 to 62 years.
Sources in the Finance department informed Early Times that the proposal forwarded by Higher Education department to the Finance department regarding enhancement of retirement age of the College Professors from existing 60 years to 62 years has been given approval by the department.
"After giving its consent on the proposal the file has been returned back to the Higher Education department", sources said, adding that the Higher Education department would soon formulate a memo for enhancement of the age and same would be forwarded to the State Administrative Council (SAC), along with the consent of the Finance department.
The SAC would take final call on the enhancement of the age of College professors from 60 to 62 years and there are bleak possibilities that same would be rejected by the SAC.
The enhancement of the retirement age would prove detrimental for the future prospects of the Assistant Professors as well as Associate Professors working in various colleges as they would get less promotion avenues, an official said.
The official further said that in western countries, employees have been demanding reduction in their retirement age, so that the new generation would also get change of government jobs. "But in Jammu and Kashmir earlier the government had enhanced the retirement age from 58 to 60 years and now they have been demanding enhancement of retirement age from 60 to 62 years, which is against the interests of highly qualified unemployed youth", a youth said.
They further said that already the regularization of RET teachers against regular posts of teachers as well as calling back the posts of Plus 2 lecturers was also against youth and adding further to the miseries of youth the government is taking another step, which must not be accepted at any cost.
Pertinently, some of the College professors and associate Professors who have been retiring in the year 2019, have been trying hard to get their age enhanced from 60 to 62 years.
