Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 24: Governor Satya Pal Malik might be pained over the militant killings but around 130 civilians and security forces were killed by militants in the previous year.
The Governor on Thursday said that government was making efforts for return of youth, who have joined the militancy.
"I think militancy is not in guns but in brains. We are trying to remove the militancy that is hitting the brains. I am pained over militant killings," he told the media.
At the same time, around 130 civilian and security forces were killed by militants in 2018.
As per the figures, JK Police lost 45 personnel, nine CRPF men, 30 army soldiers in the previous years. Similarly, the militants killed 44 civilians.
These killings have taken place either after kidnapping of civilians or ambush laid by the militants. There has also been radicalization of many youth in Kashmir and have inclined towards ISIS ideology.
Despite that Governor on Thursday expressed concern over the militant killings.
"We are trying to offer them for their return so that they are rehabilitated and shun the path militancy. We want to bring these children who have picked up the guns," he said. He was replying over killings of three LeT militants in Baramulla district on Wednesday.
The Governor also complimented the forces for carrying out the operations amid freezing cold.
A police official said that a section of youth was being radicalised towards ISIS ideology in Kashmir.
"The presence of ISIS is not that big in Kashmir but some youth are being radicalized by their ideology by anti-national and anti-social elements and their ill-designs have to be defeated," the official said.
He said that civil society has convinced many youth to refrain from shunning the path of militancy.
"There are some fundamentalists, who are speechless because of this. Conspiracies are being hatched and there are some proxies from across the border and people shall not let succeed their ill-designs," he added.
