POONCH, Jan 24: Throwing norms to winds a blue color flag was hoisted at Government Boys Higher Secondary Schoool Surankote during the full dress rehearsal of Republic Day celebrations instead of national flag, sources told Early Times.
They said that during rehearsals tricolor has to be hoisted in schools followed by the national anthem and after the salutation to flag, but to the utmost surprise a blue coloured flag which is said to be schools flag was hoisted in front of SDM Surankote Mohammad Salim Qureshi, who was the chief guest on the occasion. The SDM asked Naib tehsildar to take salute, they added.
The locals present on the occasion expressed resentment over the hoisting of the blue flag on the school building during the Republic day celebrations and termed it as insult to the tricolor. They alleged that tehsil authorities were taking the things casually.
When contacted SDM Surankote Mohammad Salim Qureshi told Early Times that "it makes no difference whether the flag is a national flag or an ordinary one."
Meanwhile on the complaint of locals Deputy Commissioner Poonch Rahul Yadav assured them that he would look into the matter personally.
