JKEGA spends lakhs on training, hotels
Who cares for austerity?
1/24/2019 11:18:34 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 24: It seems that the directions of the government to adopt austerity measures has fallen flat on the Jammu & Kashmir e-Governance Agency (JaKeGA) as it spent hefty sums on holding training programmes on e-Governance for government officials in lavish five star hotels of the State.
Sources told Early Times that Jammu & Kashmir e-Governance Agency, which is a society established in 2009 under JK Society Act in collaboration with National Institute of Smart Governance (NISG) held training programme on e-Governance for IAS, KAS officers in two lavish hotels, despite the fact that government had issued slew of austerity measures during former Governor NN Vohra's regime and had directed to hold meetings, training in government accommodation. But JaKeGA threw directives to winds and spent lakhs in excess.
"The training was held batch wise, which continued for more than 20 days, huge amount was paid to hotels putting extra and unwarranted burden on state exchequer which could have been otherwise avoided by holding such training programme at Government accommodations including Teachers' Bhawan Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management and Public Administration (IMPA), Jammu Convention Centre, Zorawar Auditorium etc.," they said further adding that the officers were imparted one day trainings and hundreds of officials were covered.
The violation of austerity measures by JaKeGa did not stop here, it also rented a private building in Jammu despite having its office in Civil Secretariat which was running for the last nine years.
Moreover, all the projects undertaken by the agency has not been completed till date and more shockingly it sublet the projects to private companies and the accommodations facilities for the IT experts is provided by the Estate Department despite the fact the accommodations has to be arranged by the companies resulting wasteful expenditure.
