Early Times Report

Poonch, Mar 9: Shortage of specialist doctors has affected functioning of district hospital here for quite some time with SDH Mendhar having no specialist medico, sources said here today.
Official sources reveal that the district has 48 sanctioned posts of doctors where as only 26 doctors were discharging their duties in different hospitals and health centres and rest of the posts were vacant. It is an irony that it sub district hospital Mendhar has no specialist doctor which is situated near the Line Of Control and has to cater to the needs of three tehsils including Balakote, Mankote and Mendhar, they added. Due to lack of specialist doctors the patients were being referred to district Hospital Rajouri or GMCH Jammu for treatment, they further added.
It is pertinent to mention that the specialist doctors were not being provided any facility in terms of accommodation and other perks by the government which according to sources was a reason for them to get transferred themselves from Mendhar sub division to Jammu.
When contacted Chief Medical Officer Poonch, Dar Mumtaz Bhatti admitted that there was shortage of specialist doctors in the district and we have been intimating higher authorities for filling up the vacant posts of specialist doctors time to time which include Anaesthesias and opthalmologist besides other specialists yet no arrangement have been made for the same, Dr Bhatti added.
Meanwhile Mendhar Youth Club chairman advocate Nadeem Khan has urged the district and state administration to take the issue seriously and depute specialist medicos on vacant posts to inprove the health scenario in the district.
