Jammu, Mar 9: In a major security breach, two unidentified masked men believed to be militants managed to loot the weapon from the private accommodation of the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar late last night.
Incident left the security forces, including Kishtwar police grappling in search of the stolen weapon with an apprehension that the culprits involved in the incident might use it to scuttle the political process ahead of upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections schedule to be announced any time within next 48 hours.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the PSO of DC Kishtwar identified by the police sources as constable Daleep Kumar told the Kishtwar police that two masked gunmen entered into his private accommodation at Asrarabad, Ward. No. 9 of Kishtwar Municipality and threatened to kill him and put his son at gun point before they decamped with the weapon kept in the cupboard.
He also told them that the militants also took away his two mobile phones, which were later found at an isolated place by the police.
Following the incident, Kishtwar police, army, CRPF and other law enforcing agencies launched massive Cordon and Search Operation in the area spread over 10 KM on both sides of the place where the incident took place. They also sealed all the entry and exit points leading to Kishtwar district headquarter. As per the last reports, the CASO was still going on in peripheral areas of Kishtwar town. Dog squads have also been put into service to get some vital clue in this case that has created panic among the people of Kishtwar district which has been on edge since the killing of BJP's State Secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet Parihar on 1-11-2018. Both Kishtwar police and NIA are probing the double murder of Parihar brothers. Even after four months culprits are still at large.
The police sources told the "Early Times" that following the registration of an FIR, Kishtwar police detained several people including former militant, a policeman whose vehicle was used by the masked men to escape from the spot. Police have also detained the PSO Daleep Kumar, his 19 year old son, another 22 year old youth and few others.
The sources said that the policeman who actually hails from Dachhan area of Kishtwar was putting up in Hunjala area of Kishtwar last night filed a missing complaint of his vehicle with Kishtwar police, but mentioned a wrong number of his vehicle and it was only in the morning when he give accurate registered number of his vehicle which was later found abandoned in the outskirts of Kishtwar town and it was believed that the masked persons used the vehicle for fleeing from the spot after decamping with the weapon of PSO of DC Kishtwar.
DC Kishtwar while interacting with the local media persons confirmed the development added that his PSO informed him about the incident following which Kishtwar police started the probe.
Kishtwar police besides registering the FIR also suspended the PSO Daleep Kumar for dereliction of the duty. Despite repeated attempts, senior police officials at Kishtwar did not pick up the repeated calls.
