Will Tasaduq Mufti return to steer sinking ship?
Of Lok Sabha polls and Mufti Sayeed's lone Son
3/11/2019 11:39:01 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 11: Two years ago, in April 2017, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominated Tasaduq Hussain Mufti as party's candidate for Lok Sabha elections from Anantnag, but with Tasaduq back to foreign lands, party is left without a candidate.
As polls were announced for Lok Sabha, Tasadaq Mufti is once again being discussed widely within the political circles in general and within the PDP in particular. "He is son of Mufti sahib and younger brother of the party president. We wanted him to return and fight elections but the chances look bleak," said a PDP supporter.
Last year after the coalition of PDP and the BJP fell apart, Tasaduq who was made the Tourism minister went into oblivion. Her sister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti later admitted that calling back Tasaduq from Mumbai to Jammu and Kashmir and making her a Minister was a mistake.
In a detailed chat with a New Delhi based news channel, Mehbooba stated that she felt all alone when her father passed away on January 7, 2016 and she sank into an emotional trauma. "Calling Tasaduq from Mumbai to Jammu and Kashmir was entirely my call. It is me who should be blamed for it," Mehbooba said in an interview.
The former Chief Minister added that Tasaduq was at a much better position out side the state and that becoming a Minister didn't accord him any undue benefit. "He is one of the best cinematographers of the world and he has been the cinematographer of various commercially successful films. He used to earn no less than 4-5 lakh rupees every day and being a Minister in the state didn't open any coffers for him," Mehbooba said.
Earlier, Tasaduq was fielded as party's candidate for Lok Sabha polls in the year 2017 during the by polls. However, the elections were delayed due to the law and order issues in the parliamentary constituency.
Mehbooba then witnessed a growing disgruntlement within and outside her party over the favours she accorded to her close relatives. She was even being termed as a nepotistic and her party as family democratic party instead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). MLAs of her own party rebelled against her in open with few declaring that they were ready to form the government with the BJP that pulled off its support from the government on June 19.
Questions are now being asked whether Tasaduq Mufti will again make his entry into the political arena.
