| JKPSA appeals to rectify SRO 292 of 2018 | | |

JAMMU, Mar 13: A meeting of executive members of central body of J&K Private Schools Association (JKPSA) was organized under the chairmanship of its president Kamal Gupta.
The main objective of this meeting was regarding the enforcement of arbitrary and reckless rule 13 of section 5 of SRO 292 of 2018 by the state government on unaided private schools in which all such schools are directed to maintain a website to disclose information to general public under the provisions of J&K RTI Act, 2009.
Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary of the Association, Ajay Gupta briefed the members that unaided private schools are not covered under RTI Act 2009 as per the information circulated by the J&K State Information Commission on May 13, 2011.
State RTI Act gives right to every person residing in the state to obtain information about any government department or public authority constituted under the state or central law and which is financed by the state exchequer or such authority, organization or body which is financed substantially directly or indirectly by the government. So bringing all unaided Private schools under the ambit of JKRTI Act 2009 is unconstitutional and has no legal standing.
Members present in the meeting expressed a serious concern on the imposition of this new draconian criterion on unaided private schools.
President of the Association, Kamal Gupta was of the opinion that if society wants to have good, effective and flourishing educational system then authorities at the helm must not put such hurdles and obstacles in the smooth functioning of unaided and self-financed private institutions. He along with other members appealed to rectify rule 13 of section 5 of SRO 292 of 2018 for broader good of this sacred domain of education.
