Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 13: The deteriorating condition of education in government schools can be well gauged from the fact that over 650 master grade teachers and 290 lecturers are surplus in Jammu province who, have not been discharging their duties at their original places of posting thereby creating dearth of teaching faculty in remote areas.
More shockingly, there are around 400 master grade teachers surplus in Jammu district where hundreds of these teachers from other districts have been enjoying their stay since years. "Apart from this, around 290 lecturers are surplus across Jammu Province, who are using their influence to stay in the heart of any district and avoid going to distance places. In order to realize their objective, many of them get their work done on monetary consideration," they alleged.
"Of 650 surplus master grade teachers 400 are from district Jammu, rest from Kathua, Samba, Rajouri districts etc. Although Finance Department had issued an order to send surplus teachers to their original places of posting from where their salaries are withdrawn but nothing was done by the concerned department" they informed further adding that in Jammu district, the majority of the surplus teachers belong to very influential, powerful background and higher authorities hesitates to take action against them.
They said that the surplus teachers have been staying in Jammu district while many schools in remote villages have been facing shortage of teachers. "These surplus teachers hardly work as a result students become the first casualty. These teachers have nothing to do with teaching they come and leave school without discharging their duties properly," they alleged further adding the apathetic attitude of the Directorate of School Education towards this issue makes things worse.
