Baap Ka Raaj: Geelani's son gives damn to NIA summon!
3/13/2019 11:35:13 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 13: Syed Nasim Geelani son of senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani has given a "damn" to summon of National Investigation Agency as he declined to appear before the NIA in the national capital on Monday.
Sources said Nasim Geelani who works in a university in Kashmir declined to appear before the NIA in connection with a terror funding case.
Sources said Nasim has conveyed to the NIA that he would be able to appear for questioning in New Delhi due to his "busy schedule" in Kashmir and that if they want to question him they should visit Kashmir.
Sources said members of Geelani family have been enjoying luxurious life within Kashmir and even in other states including New Delhi.
"When his (Geelani's) children and grandchildren can enjoy the luxuries of life at places like Delhi, why did his son who is government servant decline to appear before NIA for a case pertaining to terror funding. This is a serious issue," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the Geelani's family has been escaping NIA questioning for the last two years. "One of his son had got himself hospitalized when the NIA was about to arrest him. This family enjoys undue patronage," said a senior official in know of the matter.
Pertinently Hurriyat M Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has already declined to appear before the NIA.
In a written reply to NIA, Mirwaiz's council said Aijaz Ahmad Dar said "Under the prevailing conditions of hostility and threat to the Mirwaiz, it becomes unwise for him to travel to Delhi."
The NIA summons had sparked off street protests and a shutdown in Srinagar.
Two main regional parties, Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference, also accused the New Delhi of "arm twisting of the religious figure" and "attacking the religious identity of the State by summoning the Mirwaiz."
Talking to Early Times, a senior official said by giving relaxations to people like Nasim, the government was setting a wrong precedence. "This is not good," he said.
