Four militants killed in two encounters

KUPWARA, Mar 28: One militant has been killed in ongoing operation after a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Yaroo village of Handwara in this north Kashmir district today.
A top police official told Early Times that, after specific inputs about the presence of militants in Yaroo village in Handwara jurisdiction, the cordon and search operation was launched in the outer area adjoining to Langate in Handwara. We had intelligence reports about the presence of militants in the residential area, after which a joint team of security forces including army's 30 RR and SOG have launched anti militancy operation, and there was an exchange of gunfire, in the gunfight one local militant was killed, the police official said.
Arms and ammunition and other war like store have been recovered from the site of encounter.
Sources said that, the authorities had snapped internet services as precautionary measures in twin police districts of Handwara and Sopore on yesterday late night. Earlier authorities had ordered the closure of Handwara Degree College, Higher Secondary school Handwara (both boys and girls), higher secondary Langate (both boys and girls) today in view of the gunfight, while as section 144 was imposed around the gunfight site," Here police on Thursday identified slain militant killed in a gunfight at Yaroo area of Langate in Handwara as Danish Ahmad Dar resident of Sopore. A police spokesperson in a statement said that according to police records, the slain militant was affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM and was wanted by the law for his complicity in a series of terror crimes including an attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities. "Several terror crime cases were registered against him for his involvement in terror crime offences," said the spokesman. "Incriminating materials including rifle and grenades were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror cases," he said. The police spokesperson said that, citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any," said police spokesman in a statement. Meanwhile three local militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter between security forces in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday. A police spokesperson said based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Yawran area of Keller in Shopian, 70 km from here, a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) was launched by the army and police during wee hours of Thursday. "As the searches were going on, militants fired upon which was retaliated by the forces leading to a gunfight. In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists were killed," he said and identified them as Sajad Khanday, Aqib Ahmad Dar and Basharat Ahmad Mir - all residents of Pulwama district. The spokesperson said the trio were a part of a combined group of Hizbul and LeT outfits and were involved in many attacks and several cases were registered against them. He said that incriminating materials, including three AK 47 rifles, were recovered from the site of gunfight site. Reports said as the news about the killing of the local militants spread, clashes erupted on in several areas of Shopian. Residents, especially youth, took to streets and pelted security forces with stones. An eye witness said the forces responded by firing pellets and tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.
Mobile internet services were snapped in the district to prevent the spread of rumours, said an official.
