Celebrations begin in Poonch with religious fervour
550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji;

POONCH, Nov 2: The weeklong celebration of 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji began with religious fervour and gaiety, here today.
A grand function at Government Degree College marked the commencement. where Secretary to Government Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohella was the chief guest. DDC Poonch Rahul Yadav, DFO Mohan Chowdhary, Principal GDC S. Tejinder Singh, Principal GDC Mendhar, Pradhan Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee S. Narinder Singh besides lecturers, teachers and students were present on the occasion.
The function was inaugurated by lighting of the traditional lamp which was followed by recitation of religious and devotional songs and a colorful cultural function featuring Kashmiri dance, Qawali and Bhangra presented by the students of GDC Poonch. A cultural item conveying the message of 'Say no to Single use Plastic' was also presented by the students
President of DGPC Poonch S. Narinder Singh gave a brief account of the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He gave several examples from the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, teaching universal brotherhood and service to humanity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Higher Education Department appreciated the brilliant performance of the students. He further called for the need to imbibe the values and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in day to day life. The inaugural function also witnessed various other activities, which included a Kabaddi Match between two student teams of GDC Pooonch and a Plantation Drive.
The Secretary interacted with the Kabaddi players and wished them all the best. Later, he also planted a tree sapling on the campus of the College.
