Land of historic Poonch Fort encroached; Revenue Deptt goes slow against offenders

Jammu, Nov 2: Despite knowing fact that the land of historic Poonch Fort has been encroached by some locals, but the Revenue Department has been showing disinterest to take action against the violators to get the land vacated.
Sources told Early Times the around 2-3 marlas of land belong to Historic Poonch Fort which is being taken care by Archeological Department has been encroached and some constructions have been raised on the said land but despite number of complaints by the locals the Revenue Department failed to take action against the offenders.
"Land was encroached due to sluggish approach of Archeological Department which didn't take swift action when encroachment was going on. Archeological Department should have approached the concerned Revenue Department for the demarcation of land and getting the land vacated from the encroachment thereby fencing its territory but due to apathy of the Archeological Department, the other departments are also not taking action," they said further adding that the Revenue Department as well as the Police have not been cooperating in this serious matter.
It has been learnt that the teams of Revenue Department which were sent on various occasion for the demarcation of encroached land never reached to spot and went elsewhere for demarcation just to hoodwink the people and the department. President Municipal Council Poonch Sunil Sharma took strong exception of the encroachment of land of Poonch Fort and other encroachments by the shop-keepers in the city which has created menace. He alleged that all violations are being done under the nose of administration. "The mess is being created due to non cooperation of Revenue Department, Police to check encroachment of road," he said. He appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to take note of such violations and demanded strict action against the delinquent officers.
