Release of detained politicians, Govt to take call in Nov
'Sub jail at hotel being relocated for security reasons'
11/2/2019 11:18:09 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 2: With over two dozen senior politicians including three former Chief Ministers behind the bars since the abrogation of special status on August 5, 2019, the decision on their release will be taken only in the month of November after the Lieutenant Governor takes oath.
Sources said after the scheduled oath-taking ceremony scheduled to be held in Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah will sent a high level team from New Delhi to Kashmir to analyze the ground situation.
"The team will also take feedback from the intelligence agencies and look into the prospects of releasing them(politicians), mostly likely one by one," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said there is already a go ahead for the release of some senior leaders from the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and the Peoples Conference but that there were apprehensions about the release of Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Lone in particular.
Sources said recently a senior leader from the National Conference presently detained at the Centaur Sub Jail was offered "to go back home" but that he refused to buy the offer due to "conditions put on the release."
Meanwhile the government has decided to relocate the politicians detained at the Centaur Hotel to MLA Hostel in Srinagar.
A senior official told Early Times on the condition of anonymity that in the coming days the SK International Convention Complex was to be used for various public and official activities and thus it would be difficult to detain the politicians at the building just next to the SKICC.
"There are security issues. Once the SKICC is back to business, the visitor footfall at the venue will be unusual and at such a moment it will be difficult to man jail security in accordance with the jail manual. Hence it has been almost decided that the sub jail will be relocated," the official told Early Times.
