11/2/2019 11:11:54 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 2: Pradesh Youth Congress, J&K on Saturday staged protest against the government privatizing the Power Development Department.
Led by Uday Chib, President PYC J&K, the activists assembled outside the Press Club and raised slogans against the BJP led Government at the Centre. Uday said that the J&K Power Development Department is being reconstituted into four State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). "Such move of government not only will allow the private sector to intervene in the department's functioning but also put the jobs of PDD employees at stake," he said, adding that government should take stakeholders in confidence before taking such big decision.
"It is estimated that about 30,000 employees will be affected by the decision of government to reorganize the PDD," he stated. He further said that there is no transparency in unbundling the department and the jobs of employees are at stake as there is no detailed transition plan for the employees. Chib asserted that after privatization of Power Development Department the power bills would be hiked upto three to four times and it's not possible for the people of Jammu region to pay such hefty bills in this highly inflation period. He asked the government to immediately roll back such decision failing which the Youth Congress has no option to come on roads.
Chib asserted that J&K has already facing numerous problems due to repealing of Articles 370 and 35A and unemployment is one among the major problems. He said in PDD most of the employees are the lone breadwinners of their families and disengaging them will have devastating effects not only on them, but on their families also. He asserted that the BJP has lacked vision for tackling such problem. Chib asked the government to immediately shelve this corporatization as this is against the interests of employees, daily wagers, need based employees who are rendering their services for the last more than 20 years to the department. He said corporatization could lead them into severe crisis and could be retrenched by companies also.
Chib, while extending full support to the PDD employees, asked government to beware from taking any steps which leads to turmoil in the newly formed Union Territory.
Among those who joined the protest included Jatinder Chib Block President Congress, Aijaz Choudhary Vice President JKPYC, Ricky Dalotra, Mudassir Choudhary, Nimrandeep Singh General Secretaries JKPYC, Vishal Chopra and Sandeep Sharma Spokesperson JKPYC, Avijot Singh, Barinder Partap, Divyansh Jamwal, Jagjoot Singh Secretaries JKPYC, Neeraj Choudhary and Rahul Tandon Romi Sharma DYC Presidents, Jagdeep Chahal VP DYC , Abhishek kapoor and Happy Randhawa and Sunny Jatt AYC Presidents.sahil vishal singh atul dogra and many youth congress activist join protest.
