EARLY TIMES REPORT

RAJOURI, Apr 6: The entire Manjakote Tehsil, which has been facing huge threat due to surge in number of COVID-19 positive cases in recent past and subsequent declared as red zone area in the Rajouri district, has been suffering a lot due to lack of health facility and ambulances in Public Health Centers Manjakote and Gambhir Muglan.
Despite the fact that Manjakote is situated at LoC where Pakistan resort to shelling in nearby villages often resulting into injuring many people of area, but the PHC Manjakote, PHC Gambhir Muglan have been facing shortage of ambulance facility, which is very important to shift injured patient during emergency period.
Sources told Early Times that there is only one ambulance at PHC Manjakote, which has been laying defunct while there are two ambulances at PHC Gambhir Muglan in which one has been laying defunct and the condition of the other ambulance is so bad that it hardly get started.
“In case of emergency, we had to call ambulance, which take lot of time putting the lives of patient in danger and at time we have to take service of private ambulances, which charges a lot,” sources said.
Expressing strong resentment, the Sarpanch of Panchayat Manjakote, Samreen Khan, while talking to Early Times said that the health services in these PHCs are very poor due to which people have to face difficulties.
“In these times Manjakote has been witnessing many cases of COVID-19 due to which area has been declared Red Zone. Moreover the women with pregnancy cases are facing lot of difficulty due to absence of ambulance services,” Samreen Khan said further adding that people have to call on 108 to call ambulance service.
She further said that Manjkote has a pollution of 44,000 souls as per 2011 census which has now approximately reached at 52,000 but there is only one ambulance for such a huge population. People have to hire ambulance on their own expanses despite the fact that majority of population is poor.
BDC Majakote, Shamshad Begum also pointed out the problem of lack of ambulance and demanded the government to take note of the issue.
Tehsildar Manjakote, Mohammad Sageer, when contacted by the Early Times for his official version, said that the issue has been taken up with the higher authorities.
