Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 12: A faith healer from Budgam district who has tested positive for Covid19 has risked numerous lives as the administration allegedly knew about his travel history but didn’t take him to quarantine facility.
Sources said administration is Budgam was aware that the faith healer had a travel history to New Delhi and was a suspect of the deadly coronavirus.
But instead of taking him into quarantine center, he was allowed to sit back at his residence in the central Kashmir district.
Sources told Early Times that the faith healer who belongs to a prominent family in the area had been meeting his followers who would regularly visit his residence. “If government had kept him in home quarantine, why was he not asked to live in isolation and why was he allowed to meet people, this is serious negligence on the part of the administration,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. With the said man having tested positive, panic has gripped Budgam area as numerous people had come in contact with him. “Contact tracing is a big problem as we don’t exactly how many people had met him,” said the official.
The locals have accused of administration of resorting to favoritism in making the faith healer stay at his residence.
“If no such suspected case was allowed to remain at home, why was this man allowed? Is it not negligence on the part of the concerned,” the locals asked.
It is pertinent to mention that atleast three persons have already died of coronavirus in Kashmir and the valley has been witnessing largest number of cases in the union territory.
Over hundred persons in Kashmir tested positive for the ailment within the fortnight of the lockdown.
When contacted a senior official said the matter was being looked into.
